Review: Ology Essentials Hemp CBD Lip Balm
I was so excited to be able to review the “She” line by Ology Essentials, designed specifically with women & femmes in mind. I’ve been very into skincare products since the 10th grade when I read a book about easy environmental changes to make within your bathroom. A seemingly simple concept took hold and since then I have always gravitated toward products with simple and clean ingredients—a win/win for my skin and the earth.
I also have turned to hemp-based beauty products for years and years, well before my entrance into the cannabis industry, from when I began using Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soap ( a company which helped to fund and organize to overturn DEA regulations on hemp and is currently fighting for legalization of marijuana). All this to say that I’ve long appreciated the value of hemp in beauty products before the CBD craze, promising wild results took hold of mainstream culture.
Therefore I suspected that these products would be beneficial and compatible with my skin and skincare routine, though I had no expectation that this lip balm made with Hemp CBD oil, beeswax, peppermint essential oil, and hemp wax was going to be a miracle product, as most things with CBD promise. However, I did like that those were all of the ingredients in the lip balm—simple, trusted, and pleasant to use!
The consistency reminded me more of shea or coco butter-based lip balms than the dry texture of many beeswax products. I liked that it went on smoothly and left an instantly soft quality to my lips and the telltale tingly quality of peppermint oil. Although I’m someone that enjoys applying lip balm often, this isn’t one that I felt I needed to apply often—my lips remained moist throughout teaching/ talking for the entire hour of my yoga class. The simple ingredients also ensure that barring any specific allergies, this balm will be compatible with most people, with very low risk of negative side effects (have you ever used a balm or gloss that left your lips itchy, red, or irritated? The worst).
This balm is good for everyday application, as well as a post-lip scrub conditioner. It also works well as a base if you plan to apply lipstick or gloss afterwards. Remember to help keep your lips moisturized by drinking lots of water, using hydrating, natural balms, and minding your business!
